How to use Foundry
This guide is on rlfoundry.io/guide. It follows your first ten minutes: download, check, extract, open, and find your way around.
What the two apps do
Foundry reads the replays you save in Rocket League and shows your matches and your stats (the same stats as a ballchasing.com replay page). With Foundry Pro it also shows plain-language tips on where to improve, your mechanics, your player card and a 3D replay viewer. Everything is worked out on your own PC. It changes nothing in the game unless you turn on match recording (step 7).
The Foundry Uploader is the small helper that runs in the background:
- it records the result and scoreboard of every match you play, even the ones you don't save a replay of (match recording, optional);
- it can upload your replays to ballchasing.com, if you give it your ballchasing key (optional).
Get both. Windows 10 or 11 only. There is nothing to install.
Free and Pro
Foundry is free to download and use. Free gives you:
- match recording and ballchasing.com uploads;
- the match list, and each match's scoreboard;
- the Overview and Core stats (without the rank and pro comparisons);
- every CSV export, and "Export my data".
Foundry Pro adds the coaching:
- the Coaching page, with your player card;
- each match's coaching notes, and why you won or lost it;
- Mechanics, Trends and Review;
- the deep stat pages, and the rank and pro comparisons;
- clips and the 3D replay viewer;
- beta builds.
The free download and Pro are the same app. When you buy Pro you enter a key (step 12), and there's nothing to reinstall. Prices are on rlfoundry.io/#pro. Until Pro goes on sale, Foundry says Pro is coming soon.
Your data and your exports are never locked, on Free or Pro.
1. Download
Download Foundry only from rlfoundry.io/download. Never run a Foundry build you got from anywhere else, even from a friend.
There are two ZIPs:
- Foundry-<version>-win-x64.zip (Foundry)
- FoundryUploader-<version>-win-x64.zip (the Foundry Uploader)
The download page also shows each ZIP's SHA-256 (a long code) and the publisher name to expect: Sean Thomas.
2. Check the download is genuine
Do this for each ZIP before you extract anything.
Open PowerShell (click Start, type "PowerShell", press Enter).
Go to your Downloads folder:
cd DownloadsType this (with the ZIP's real name) and press Enter:
Get-FileHash .\Foundry-1.0.0-win-x64.zipCompare the long code it shows with the SHA-256 on the download page. Capital or small letters don't matter.
If the codes don't match, don't extract it: delete it and tell us in the RL Foundry Discord.
Never "Unblock" the ZIP (the box in the ZIP's Properties). Leave it as it is, so Windows can check the files inside.
3. Extract it into its own new folder
Extract all into its own new folder, never Downloads itself, keep that folder, and run Foundry.exe from it.
- Make a folder you won't clean up by accident, for example C:\Users\<your name>\Foundry (not on OneDrive and not loose in Downloads).
- Right-click the Foundry ZIP and click "Extract All...". Click "Browse...", pick that folder, then click "Extract".
- Do the same with the Uploader ZIP, into the same folder.
You now have a "Foundry" folder (with Foundry.exe) and a "Foundry Uploader" folder (with Foundry Uploader.exe) side by side. Keep them where they are: Start with Windows points at the copy you run, so moving or deleting the folder breaks it.
Don't run the apps from inside the ZIP (double-clicking Foundry.exe in the ZIP window). Always extract first.
4. Check the publisher, then open Foundry
- Right-click Foundry.exe, click Properties, then the "Digital Signatures" tab. The name must read exactly Sean Thomas.
- Double-click Foundry.exe.
If Windows shows a blue box ("Windows protected your PC"), click "More info". It must say Publisher: Sean Thomas. Only then click "Run anyway".
Anything else, "Unknown publisher" included, means stop. Don't run it, and tell us in the RL Foundry Discord.
Never turn off Smart App Control or your antivirus to make Foundry run. (Once it is off, Smart App Control usually can't be turned back on without reinstalling or resetting Windows.) Tell us instead; see TROUBLESHOOTING.
The first time, Foundry takes a few seconds to open, then analyses all your saved replays once. That takes a few minutes (about 4 minutes for 1,000 replays). You can use the app while it works. After that it opens straight away and only looks at new replays.
5. Your replay folder
Foundry finds your replay folder by itself: the folder with your newest replay, under Documents\My Games\Rocket League\TAGame (Demos for Steam, DemosEpic for Epic). Settings shows the folder and says "Found automatically (the folder with your newest replay)."
Documents on OneDrive. If Windows keeps your Documents folder on OneDrive, Foundry looks there too, and uses the same Documents folder that Rocket League uses, for replays, the game's logs and the game setting that match recording changes.
If Foundry picked the wrong folder, or found none, use Settings -> Replays -> "Change folder".
Settings also says whether Rocket League's own logs were found ("Game logs: found"). They give Foundry your matches without a saved replay, and your solo-queue MMR. See TROUBLESHOOTING if it says "Game logs not found".
6. "Is this you?"
Foundry needs to know which account in your replays is you. If it can't tell, it asks at the bottom of the left menu, under the status line, for example "Is Name you? 42 games", with Yes and No.
- Yes adds that account to "you".
- No is remembered, and it won't ask about that account again.
It only ever asks; it never decides for you. You can change it any time in Settings -> "Which accounts are you" (for example if you also play on an alt, or a friend played on your PC).
7. Match recording (optional, recommended)
Rocket League only keeps a replay when you save it. To still count the result and scoreboard of every match you play, turn on match recording: Settings -> "Record every match (needs a one-time game setting)". You can do it in either app.
- It uses Rocket League's own Stats API, the official feature Psyonix made for stat trackers and overlays. The apps only talk to the game on your own PC.
- It changes one game setting: PacketSendRate in TAStatsAPI.ini, in Documents\My Games\Rocket League\TAGame\Config (the app shows the exact path before it changes anything). A copy of the file is kept first. Nothing else in the game is touched: no other game file, no memory access.
- Restart Rocket League once afterwards, so it picks up the setting.
- "Turn off match recording" puts that setting back the way it was.
Matches are only recorded while the Uploader or Foundry is open. The Uploader records whenever it's open; Foundry records only while the Uploader isn't open. Recorded matches show the result and scoreboard, but not heatmaps or the 3D replay; those still need the saved replay.
Turn off match recording before you delete the apps (see REMOVING THE APPS), so the game setting is put back.
8. Start the Uploader with Windows
So that every match is recorded without you thinking about it, let the Uploader start when you sign in to Windows:
- in the Uploader: Settings -> tick "Start with Windows"; or
- in Foundry: while recording is on and the Uploader doesn't start with Windows, Settings says "Matches are only recorded while Foundry Uploader or Foundry is open" and offers a "Start the Uploader with Windows" button. The line under it shows which Uploader will start ("Will start: ..."). Foundry can offer the button once you've opened the Uploader at least once.
When Windows starts it, the Uploader opens minimised: it sits in the taskbar and doesn't take focus. There is no tray icon.
Closing the Uploader's window. While it is recording or uploading, closing the window asks: "Closing stops match recording and uploads." Click Minimize to keep it running, or Quit to stop it. "Don't ask again" remembers your choice, which you can change in the Uploader's Settings -> "When I close the window" (Ask, Minimize, or Quit). "Quit Foundry Uploader" in its Settings always quits.
Start with Windows follows the copy you run. When you open a new build, each app moves its own Start with Windows entry to the copy you just opened (only if it was already on). So when you update: extract the new build, open both new apps once, and only then delete the old build's folder.
Foundry has its own "Start with Windows" too (Settings -> App), if you want Foundry itself to open when you sign in.
9. Uploading to ballchasing.com (optional)
Nothing is uploaded unless you add your ballchasing key. Foundry works without one.
To add it, in the Uploader (or Foundry's Uploads page): click "Open ballchasing.com/upload", log in with Steam (this works even if you play on Epic), copy your API key, paste it into the app and click Save. "Who can see new uploads" sets the visibility. Uploads go to ballchasing.com under its own terms.
See THE BALLCHASING KEY below for where the key is kept.
10. No replays yet?
On a new PC, or if you've never saved a replay, Foundry has nothing to show and says: "No replays found in <folder>. Save a replay at the end of a match, or pick your replay folder in Settings."
- After a match, click "Save Replay" in Rocket League. Or, during a match, hold Backspace (View/Back on a controller) to save that match's replay when it ends.
- You can also save your recent matches from Match History in Rocket League (it keeps your last 20 matches from the past 30 days).
- Match recording (step 7) counts the result and scoreboard of matches you don't save.
Only saved matches get the full analysis.
11. What you see
Foundry's look is navy, blue and orange, the colours of the Foundry logo. Team colours in matches and replays (blue and orange) are the usual ones.
The menu down the left side has everything: Coaching, Matches, Stats, Mechanics, Review (only when there are moments for you to check), Trends, Uploads and Settings. "Find anything" at the top right (or press /) finds a page, a stat, a match or a setting by name.
On Free, Foundry opens on Matches. A Pro page shows a short panel instead: what that page does with Foundry Pro, a link to Foundry Pro, and a way to enter your key. It never shows a broken or empty page.
- The buttons at the top (7d, 30d, 90d, All) pick how far back to look; next to them you can pick a mode and a playlist. It starts on your last 30 days.
- Matches (Free): your matches on the left, the one you picked on the right, opening on its Summary. Free shows each match's scoreboard and its Overview and Core stats; Pro adds its coaching notes, why you won or lost, and "Watch replay" in 3D.
- Stats (Free: Overview and Core): your averages over the games you've filtered. Pro adds the other stat pages and the rank and pro comparisons.
- Coaching (Pro): your record, your ball-in-front time against a target
for your rank, then Your player card, then "Where to improve", your
top tips.
Your player card grades six stats on a hexagon: Speed, Flash,
Offense, Consistency, Intellect and Defense. Each gets a letter from S
(the top) down to E, for how your average game compares.
- Speed is marked "vs ranks": it is rated against ranked Gold, GC and SSL players, so its line reads like a rank (for example "between Gold and about Diamond").
- The other five are marked "vs lobby": they are rated against the players in your own lobbies. The line under the hexagon says which stat uses which scale.
- Point at a stat, tap it, or tab to it to see what it measures and exactly what it compares you with. "Table view" shows the same as text, with each stat's Scale and its Range (how far the letter could reasonably move).
- Your strongest stats against your lobby give you a player type (for example "Afterburner Acrobat"), and a dashed outline shows how pro players grade.
- The card counts ranked Duel, Doubles and Standard games only. Speed doesn't rate 1v1 games yet (there's too little 1v1 rank data), so a card of only 1v1 games shows "?" for Speed.
- A stat shows "?" until it has 10 graded games, and the player type until there are 20. The "vs lobby" stats also need at least 60 player-games from your lobbies in a mode.
- The line under the card says how many ranked games it graded, and against how many players.
- Mechanics (Pro): the mechanics you try, and how often they work. Each card's "What counts" says exactly what counts as a try and as a success.
- Trends (Pro): your results and key stats over time, and you against your teammates and opponents.
- Settings: your replay folder, your accounts, your rank, match recording, your Foundry Pro key (License), Help and About.
Matches you didn't save still show up, marked "no replay": either "Seen in logs" (from the game's own logs) or "Recorded (no replay)" (with match recording on).
The "Export CSV" buttons save stats as files for Excel, on Free and Pro. Those files contain the names and platform IDs of everyone in your matches, including your opponents. Keep that in mind before sharing them.
12. Foundry Pro and your key
Prices and the buy button are on rlfoundry.io/#pro. Until Pro goes on sale, that page and the app say Pro is coming soon. Members of the RL Foundry Discord get a discount.
When you buy, Polar (the shop that sells Pro for us) gives you a key on your receipt and in its customer portal. Then:
- In Foundry, go to Settings -> License.
- Enter your key and click Activate. Once it says Active, the Pro pages open.
Settings -> License shows your status and the last 4 characters of your key, never the whole key. From there you can also refresh it, sign this PC out, and open "Manage subscription" (Polar's customer portal, where you change plan, cancel or replace your key).
- One key covers 2 PCs. To move Pro to another PC, sign this one out first, in the app or in the portal.
- Pro keeps working offline for 7 days.
- If someone else has your key, replace it in the customer portal. That's the only way to shut them out.
- If Pro ends, Foundry goes back to Free. Your data and your exports stay.
13. While you play
Foundry backs off while Rocket League is running, so your game stays smooth:
- "Paused while Rocket League is in a match": analysis waits until the match ends;
- "Running slowly while Rocket League is open": analysis carries on more slowly between matches.
Nothing is lost either way; it catches up by itself.
14. The version and updates
The version is in Settings -> About, in both apps. It reads like "Foundry 1.0.0 · built 2026-10-17 · engine 17.6". Copy that line into bug reports.
New versions. When it starts, and once a day while it's open, Foundry reads a small file from downloads.rlfoundry.io that says what the newest version is. When there is a newer one, Settings -> About says so, with a link to the download page, and a small dot appears on the Settings icon. That's all it does: Foundry never downloads or installs an update by itself.
Beta builds (the version ends in "-beta" and a number) expire 45 days after their build date. Then Foundry keeps everything you already have and every page keeps working, but it analyses no new replays until you update. The Uploader carries on recording and uploading. Nothing is locked or deleted.
Updating: download the new version from rlfoundry.io/download, check it (steps 2 and 4), extract it into a new folder, open both new apps once, then delete the old folder. Your settings, analysis and recorded matches carry over: they live in your data folders, not in the app's folder. After an update, Foundry may analyse your library again once; your matches stay on screen while it runs.
15. When Rocket League updates (patch day)
A Rocket League update can change its replay files so that a version of Foundry can't read the new ones yet. Foundry then says so plainly: the games saved since the update will be read by the next version, and nothing is lost.
Keep playing and saving replays as usual. When the fixed version is on rlfoundry.io/download, update (step 14) and Foundry reads them.
16. Copy diagnostics and Help
Both apps have a Help card in Settings, with "Copy diagnostics".
- Click "Copy diagnostics". A preview shows exactly what will be copied.
- Read it, then click Copy, and paste it into your bug report in the RL Foundry Discord.
It holds the About line, your Windows version, the folders found (without your user name), the library counts, the match-recording state, the replays that couldn't be read, and the app's last 200 log lines. It never holds your ballchasing key, your Pro key, account IDs, or the names of your own accounts. Other players' names can appear in a log line, so glance at the preview first.
The Help card also says where to report bugs and what never to share.
TROUBLESHOOTING
1. Windows blocks it (SmartScreen or Smart App Control). SmartScreen ("Windows protected your PC"): click "More info". If it says Publisher: Sean Thomas, click "Run anyway". A new version can show this box for a while even though it's signed. If it says anything else, or "Unknown publisher", don't run it; tell us. Smart App Control ("Part of this app has been blocked"): don't turn Smart App Control off. Tell us in the RL Foundry Discord, with your Windows version.
2. My antivirus flagged it. Don't add an exception yet. Check the ZIP's SHA-256 against the download page (step 2). Then tell us in the Discord, with the antivirus name and the exact message. If the code matches, we send the build to the antivirus maker as a false positive and say when it's cleared.
3. "No replays found". See step 10. If you do have saved replays, check Settings -> Replays: the folder must be the one Rocket League saves into (Demos or DemosEpic). Use "Change folder" to pick it.
4. "N couldn't be read". Some replays couldn't be analysed. After a Rocket League update this is usually patch day (step 15): wait for the next version. Otherwise report it with "Copy diagnostics": it lists the replays that couldn't be read and why. Don't send the replay files unless we ask.
5. Match recording isn't working. Look at the line under Settings -> Match recording:
- "restart Rocket League once so it picks up the new setting": restart the game;
- "waiting for Rocket League to start": start the game;
- nothing recorded at all: the Uploader or Foundry must be open while you play; turn on Start with Windows (step 8).
Still stuck: report it with "Copy diagnostics".
6. "Game logs not found". Foundry still works, but matches without a saved replay, and your MMR from the game, don't show. The message says where it looked. This usually means your replay folder isn't Rocket League's own (for example a copy elsewhere); use "Change folder" to pick the one under ...\TAGame. If it's right and the message stays, report it with "Copy diagnostics".
7. The app won't start. If it shows "Foundry couldn't start." (or the Uploader's), click "Copy details" and paste it into a report. If nothing appears at all, check you ran it from the extracted folder, not from inside the ZIP, and that you didn't move the folder. Then report it.
8. "Out of date". A beta build is past its 45 days. Get the current version from rlfoundry.io/download (step 14). Nothing is lost.
9. My key won't activate. Check you copied the whole key from your Polar receipt or the customer portal. If both your PCs are in use, sign one out in the portal first. Still stuck: email support or ask in the Discord. Never post your key in a channel.
GETTING HELP
- Questions, bugs and ideas: the RL Foundry Discord (the link is on rlfoundry.io/discord). One post per bug, with "Copy diagnostics" pasted in.
- Email: support@whobrew.us.
- A replay or a crash dump: only when we ask you for one, and only privately. Never post one in a channel.
Never post your ballchasing key or your Pro key anywhere.
WHERE YOUR DATA LIVES
Paste a path into the address bar of File Explorer to open it. (The folders keep the apps' older internal names on purpose, so your data carries over.)
- %APPDATA%\RocketLeagueCoach: Foundry's settings, your Review answers (in "review"), and your Pro key (encrypted) and its license file.
- %LOCALAPPDATA%\RocketLeagueCoach: Foundry's analysis cache, its log ("logs") and its crash dumps ("crashes").
- %APPDATA%\RocketLeagueUploader: the Uploader's settings, your ballchasing key (.env), the list of uploads, your recorded matches, and the copy of the game setting kept by match recording ("stats-api-backups").
- %LOCALAPPDATA%\RocketLeagueUploader: the Uploader's log ("logs") and its crash dumps ("crashes").
- The folder you extracted the apps into: the apps themselves.
Your replays stay where Rocket League saves them. The apps never change or delete them.
Never share your data folders, and never zip one up for anyone: they hold your ballchasing key and other players' names.
Crash dumps. If an app crashes, a crash file (a minidump) is kept on your PC ("crashes" above; the newest five). They are never sent anywhere. Never send a crash dump unless we ask, and then only privately: a dump can hold your upload key.
THE BALLCHASING KEY
- It is kept in %APPDATA%\RocketLeagueUploader\.env, in plain text on your PC (a later version will protect it better).
- It is never in "Copy diagnostics".
- Never post it in Discord, and never share the data folder.
- If you think someone else has it, tell us privately, and check your account on ballchasing.com.
REMOVING THE APPS
If you have Pro, sign this PC out first: Settings -> License -> "Sign out this PC". That frees it for another PC.
Turn off match recording: Settings -> "Turn off match recording", in Foundry or the Uploader. This puts the game setting back.
Untick "Start with Windows" in the Uploader's Settings, and in Foundry's Settings -> App.
Quit both apps (in the Uploader: Settings -> "Quit Foundry Uploader").
Delete the folder you extracted the apps into.
Delete the data folders listed in WHERE YOUR DATA LIVES: %APPDATA%\RocketLeagueCoach, %LOCALAPPDATA%\RocketLeagueCoach, %APPDATA%\RocketLeagueUploader and %LOCALAPPDATA%\RocketLeagueUploader. (This also deletes your ballchasing key from this PC.)
If you skipped step 3, remove the two Start with Windows entries. They are the Run values RocketLeagueTools.CoachPortable (Foundry) and RocketLeagueTools.UploaderPortable (the Uploader), under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. In PowerShell:
reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v RocketLeagueTools.CoachPortable /f reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v RocketLeagueTools.UploaderPortable /f("Unable to find" just means it was already gone.)
